Summary

The Director of Academic Enhancement is responsible for overseeing student academic support services at Charleston Southern University. This role focuses on providing opportunities to enhance learning, promoting best practices for student success, and improving retention through a range of programs and initiatives. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Student Success, the Director of Academic Enhancement manages the university’s Learning Center, including the supervision of student-employees (tutors and mentors), collaborates with faculty to create innovative learning opportunities, and develops procedures to ensure the effective and efficient operation of academic support services.

Work Performed

•    Promote a Christ-centered academic environment that encourages intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth among students.
•    Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student staff (peer tutors and mentors), ensuring quality academic support and alignment with CSU’s mission.
•    Manage the daily operations of the university’s Learning Center (The Hub) including oversight of peer mentor and tutor availability schedules.
•    Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for an efficient, student-centered learning environment.
•    Provide ongoing professional development, training, and oversight to peer mentors and tutors to promote effective academic coaching and support.
•    Collaborate with faculty to identify student needs and create strategies for early intervention and academic support.
•    Support and coordinate academic workshops, study skills programs, and first-year success initiatives.
•    Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of academic support services, using data to drive improvements and report outcomes to university stakeholders.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or a related field.
•    At least 5 years of professional experience in academic support, student success, or retention programming in higher education.
•    Demonstrated leadership experience with supervisory responsibilities.
•    Strong organizational, communication, and data analysis skills.
•    A personal commitment to the Christian mission of Charleston Southern University and the integration of faith and learning

Preferred Qualifications

•    Masters degree in related field.
•    Experience with academic coaching models and learning support software.
•    Familiarity with best practices in learning centers, retention strategies, and student development in faith-based institutions.
