About You
AppDirect is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Revenue Accounting to lead and direct the company’s revenue accounting team and processes. Reporting to the VP, Global Controller, this exciting and challenging newly created role will be an integral part of the accounting and finance team and will be responsible for the consistent application of revenue recognition policies, procedures, and controls. This is a critical and high-profile role that in addition to overseeing the month-end revenue close process will work closely with billing/accounts receivable, sales, operations, legal, and strategic finance to provide technical revenue recognition input and expertise on optimal deal structuring and revenue modeling.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated people leadership and collaboration skills, strong working knowledge of US GAAP (ASC 606) and direct experience leading the full revenue accounting and reporting process.
What you'll do and how you'll have an impact
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four that includes two managers.
- Oversee and direct revenue monthly close and reporting activities including, but not limited to, review of revenue related journal entries and support, review and timely completion of account reconciliations related to AR, contract assets/liabilities, and deferred revenues, and preparation of monthly/quarterly flux analysis.
- Lead review of customer contracts to ensure consistent application of revenue recognition policies in accordance with US GAAP (ASC 606).
- Partner cross-functionally with billing/accounts receivable, sales, operations, legal, IT, and strategic finance including during contract negotiations to provide suggestions and assistance in revenue recognition optimization.
- Perform technical accounting research and prepare accounting position papers documenting rationale and conclusions.
- Summarize impacts of new accounting pronouncements and implement them, as necessary.
- Preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures under US GAAP.
- Provide support for independent auditors in their quarterly reviews and annual audits, including preparation of support for audit requests.
- Oversee and direct process improvement and automation initiatives.
- Lead revenue SOX internal control implementation readiness, including documentation of controls and process narratives, identification of control gaps and risks, and implementation of effective internal controls.
- Lead/assist with special projects as necessary.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
- 7+ years of management experience.
- Mix of public accounting and industry experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and specific experience with ASC 606 and related internal controls.
- Experience in a similar role in a publicly traded, multinational software company with international operations is preferred.
- Experience with Gross-to-net accounting and revenue sharing/commission arrangements is preferred.
- Experience with foreign exchange and intercompany transactions.
- Highly motivated, results-oriented individual with ability to take initiative in a diverse organization.
- Strong financial and analytical skills including substantial experience with valuation, accounting principles and financial statement analysis.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple functional units and levels within the organization.
- Ability to clearly and concisely document and effectively communicate complex accounting and reporting issues to finance and non-finance personnel.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to effectively interact with senior management and individuals with varying degrees of financial knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint
