Summary:
Career Development at the Kogod School of Business at American University provides career development support to undergraduate and graduate business students. The Data Analyst student worker role will support the department’s efforts to deliver meaningful, data-informed insights for a variety of key stakeholders (internal staff, academic departments, school leadership). All student employees will receive cross-training in front desk operations, event setup and support, and social media assistance. Flexibility to assist in these areas as needed is expected. This role involves assisting with the preparation of customized reports, identifying trends from student feedback, organizing outcome data, and supporting communications that highlight key opportunities and updates for internal stakeholders. The student will also contribute to visualizing data in a clear and accessible format to enhance understanding and impact.
Responsibilities:
Assist in generating and customizing reports about engagement with career development for academic departments.
Analyze student engagement data, feedback, and outcomes to identify relevant trends and insights.
Support the collection, cleaning, and organization of student outcomes data.
Extract key information (e.g., job postings, events, updates) to be highlighted in reports and digital communications.
Create simple data visualizations (charts, graphs, dashboards) to support reporting efforts.
Research trends and key data within the career services field to highlight as benchmarks and best practices when reporting data.
Maintain organized records of data sources and visual assets.
Collaborate with staff to ensure clarity, accuracy, and timeliness of deliverables.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work:
Part-Time.
10 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$18.50 - $20.00 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Current Graduate student at American University.
Attendance at a mandatory 2-day training session at the end of August is required (exact dates to be confirmed).
Must be willing to sign and adhere to a Confidentiality Agreement to ensure the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information.
Ability and willingness to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with moving furniture and equipment during event setup and teardown.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Strong attention to detail and interest in data analysis.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Qualtrics, experience with visualization tools (e.g., Canva, Tableau, Excel charts) a plus.
Ability to interpret and summarize data into digestible formats.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Interest in higher education, student engagement, or data storytelling is a bonus.
Pursuing a degree at AU; preference for a graduate student studying business, ideally Analytics.
Hiring preference will be given to students who can work for the full academic year.
