Position Summary

This position is for the Fall Semester 2025.

Teaches 30 credits per year and performs instructional duties in diverse learning environments. Supports the science labs, designs and prepares for course assignments, maintains scheduled office hours, designs student assessments and tracks assessment results, meets with students, grades student work, and advises students in the sciences and related areas. Provides mentoring and guidance to adjunct faculty. It is expected that faculty maintain current professional standards and practices, as well as attend committee/department meetings, and support the mission of SFCC and the School of Science, Health, Engineering and Math. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community.

This position will be required to work onsite in Santa Fe, NM.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaches up to 15 credit hours each semester/30 credits per year;

  • conducts assigned classes in accordance with approved course syllabi;

  • Participates in curriculum development;

  • Advises students concerning academic achievement and learning goals;

  • Assists students with enrollment, registration and navigating systems; submits required reports by deadlines; acquaints students with course content, requirements, grading procedures, and attendance policy; maintains and submits to the Department chair up-to-date course outlines and assessment materials;

  • Seeks ways to improve instruction, keeping abreast of professional education developments;

  • Maintains approved schedule of office hours;

  • Assists in the choice of textbooks and other instructional materials that are appropriate to the course syllabi;

  • Creates curriculum and assessment instruments;

  • Uses appropriate technology in teaching; attends and supports college activities;

  • Participates in faculty, division, college-wide and other meetings and functions;

  • Serves on committees;

  • Develops and selects materials and methods for adjunct faculty to use in teaching and assessing science courses;

  • Mentors and observes adjunct faculty;

  • Provides leadership and professional development opportunities for adjunct faculty;

  • Collaborates with other faculty and staff in the School of Science, Health, Engineering, and Math and across the college; and assumes special duties assigned by the Department Chair or Dean and/or designated representatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Biology or a related field, including at least 18 graduate credits in Biology.

  • 5 years experience in a Biology related field to include Two (2) years teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching anatomy and physiology and other courses for health care majors. Experience teaching in introductory biology major courses like cell biology and genetics.

  • Two years teaching in a community college setting. Five or more years of teaching experience.

  • Experience teaching in other science fields (e.g. chemistry, astronomy, geology).

  • Experience in curriculum development, on-line and technology enriched teaching and student advising.

  • Experience in teacher mentoring and strong record of continuing professional development.
