The Department of Surgery is seeking an Assistant Administrator-Clinical who will report directly to the Division Director (Chief), and the Surgery Administrator for all financial, human resources, facilities management, procurement, administrative, and data activities for the divisions of Transplant Surgery to meet the overall goals and objectives of the division. The Assistant Administrator job encompasses the management of a large and complex divisional structure encompassing finances, human resources, clinical practice, program/business development, and other fiscal and administrative operations of the division.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the JHU financial lines of business (clinical, research, gift, endowment, etc.) whose total revenues are in excess of $13 million dollars.
- Responsible for oversight in controlling expenses and increasing productivity to improve budgetary performance.
- Develops and oversees management of the divisions’ fiscal operating budget for submission to the Department of Surgery, School of Medicine, and JHH.
- Works closely with the CTC Administrative Director and transplant program faculty, nursing, and other leadership to identify quality and cost savings opportunities, and implement operational changes to achieve them.
- Overseas all payroll, personnel and human resource issues.
- Responsible for coordination and implementation of all facilities management issues, including major renovations and moves.
- Develop tactical business plans in conjunction with department leadership and administrative leaders in the SOM and JHH.
- Acts as a team leader by bringing together nurse, surgeon, data management, financial, and other multi-disciplinary personnel to work toward common goals.
- Coordinates all necessary operational and administrative issues related to surgical care, including clinical operations, faculty recruitment and retention, operations integration, revenue enhancement activities, marketing, philanthropic development, fellowship programs, and initiatives across multiple Divisions and Departments to centralize efforts.
- Responsible for developing and implementing policy and procedures and working with clinical faculty in developing new programs for patient care.
- Review monthly all funds and/or business plan activity, correct errors, and inform Division Chiefs, faculty, and Administrator of any problems or discrepancies.
- Serves as point-person for patient issues.
- Collaborate with RMS (Research Management services) regarding support for pre-award and post-award sponsored project activities in the division.
- Responsible for managing and coordinating research/lab space in transplant surgery.
- Functions as an administrative partner to Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) leadership with respect to hospital operations and quality improvement.
- Participates with senior leadership in strategic planning of CTC and business strategy. Manages regulatory compliance with state and federal agencies as well as the Joint Commission.
- Serve as the divisional liaison to the JHHC Office of Managed Care; plans outreach/fundraising events and organizes research seminar activities.
- Represent the Department of Surgery at national and regional industry events.
- Ensure departmental initiatives are reflected in the activities of the CTC. Provide analysis, reporting, and updates in order to keep the Administrator abreast of pertinent information. Address problems identified by the Administrator.
- Collaborate with the various personnel within the Depts. of Surgery and Medicine for coordination of financial, billing, equipment, facilities, and other core services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or another related field.
- Seven years progressively responsible professional-level administrative and financial experience related to monetary or non-monetary resources of a department, center, or unit, including 2 years financial management experience (e.g., planning, directing, monitoring, organizing, and controlling monetary and non-monetary resources). Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Master's degree in a related field may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: Min $84,700 - Max $148,300 Annually ($110,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
