About the role

The Team:

The safety and quality unit in Statewide Mental Health Services plays a crucial role in supporting and reviewing the delivery of care to ensure it is both effective and safe for patients.  The unit continuously monitors and evaluates the quality of care provided, recommending improvements based on data and evidence to enhance patient outcomes. Compliance with national standards and best practice models of care are key elements of our work, that help to maintain high levels of care and safety for patients and staff. These efforts collectively aim to create a safe, therapeutic environment that supports recovery and well-being for individuals receiving mental health care.

The Role:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant - Patient Safety contributes to the Safety & Quality Team, supporting frontline staff to deliver, monitor and evaluate the delivery of high quality, accountable and measurable mental health services statewide.  The role is diverse and interesting, and includes policy development, auditing, educating staff in the investigation and use of safety events and reporting systems, and monitoring compliance against national standards across all Statewide Mental Health Services.

You will need:

  • Broad clinical and operational experience within a complex health care environment encompassing acute, sub-acute and primary health services; with a demonstrated understanding of patient safety. 
  • Extensive knowledge of and commitment to continuous quality improvement, patient safety and accreditation processes including risk management, undertaking investigations, National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and other accreditation related standards and activities.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication, mediation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders with a demonstrated ability to influence and motivate staff.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for approximately twelve (12) months.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Holds, or working towards, relevant postgraduate qualifications
  • Current Driver’s Licence
