Purpose

To provide maintenance work in a variety of areas including landscape and general maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain landscape, pick up trash, pick up abandoned items left in apartments and on grounds. Monitor trees for dead limbs, water trees, trim trees including shrubs, mulch tree limbs, and mow lawn. Install & maintain and inspect playground equipment and recreational equipment. Service and complete preventive maintenance of landscape equipment such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractor, trailers, golf carts, genie lift, and generators.

  • Perform minor repairs of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and general labor as needed. Escort contractors. Maintain, install, and remove traffic signs. Assist Trades Technicians as needed.

  • Drive a UT Vehicle. Transport crews to and from work sites and pick up and deliver supplies needed by crews. Deliver and pick up vehicles from auto shop. Deliver or move furniture, equipment, and materials.

  • Clean machine rooms and respond to emergency flood cleaning issues at the University Apartments.

  • Stock inventory and supplies in shop. Set up tables and chairs for events. Communicate daily with the supervisor. Sign out, track, and account for inventory supplies used.

  • Complete and submit paperwork in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and properly report any unsafe conditions and fill out the required report of injury form if injured.

  • Promote the professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops. Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED

  • At least 1 year of experience as a laborer.

  • Experience in equipment used in work to be performed such as lawn care equipment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than a year of experience in building and commercial grounds keeping work.

  • Experience in the repair and maintenance of grounds keeping equipment.

  • Experience working in a residential housing facility or apartments.

  • Knowledge of safe workplace practices.

  • Good communication skills.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$37,440 + depending on qualifications
