Chief of Staff
Girl Scouts of Central California SouthAbout the role
Description
Girl Scouts of Central California South builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. A large nonprofit organization serving the Central Valley and surrounding communities, GSCCS provides experiences to 15,000 members annually through the support of volunteers and corporate and community partners across 5 counties. Achieving our mission requires a high-functioning leadership team to manage multiple, competing priorities among key stakeholder groups. The Chief of Staff enables this coordination, directly supporting the CEO and serving as a liaison to the Board under the CEO’s direction. As a member of the executive team, this role serves as a key partner to all senior leaders of the organization, ensuring smooth operations within the leadership team and assisting with top organizational priorities.
The Chief of Staff is a highly-visible strategic partner to the leadership team and serves as the deputy to the CEO in their absence, ensuring smooth operations and efficient communication. This role enables the success of the CEO, from the smallest details of scheduling, travel, and communications to the largest priorities in fundraising commitments, strategic projects, and board responsibilities. As the liaison to the Board of Directors, this role works directly with the Board Chair, committee chairs, and board members to plan meetings, coordinate key communications between the Office of the CEO and Board, and meet established timelines. As a conduit to the Girl Scout Movement, the Chief of Staff will collaborate and coordinate with fellow Girl Scout councils across the country on meetings and projects, support the coordination of Girl Scout councils in the state of California, and carry out responsibilities required from Girl Scouts of the USA.
With oversight over human resources and as the primary strategic leader on staff culture, this role is the central decision-maker on HR policy and offers support to staff members and managers to ensure their success. In shepherding hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes, this role is the first and last team member our staff experience during their time with GSCCS, setting the tone for our culture and staff success. This role requires a high degree of discretion, managing sensitive information, and a keen attention to detail. The Chief of Staff will enjoy a work week that rarely looks the same and involves varied stakeholders across central California.
