About the role

Position Summary:   

The Lead Instructor teaches in his/her assigned discipline, works with faculty to promote continuous improvement of instructional quality within the assigned program(s). The Lead Instructor is responsible for promoting student engagement, retention, and completion; providing academic advising and support for student success initiatives; and collaborating with faculty and campus departments to achieve institutional and departmental outcomes. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • As a faculty member, fulfills all the functions and responsibilities of teaching the assigned course load as directed by the Dean/Director of Education. 
  • Demonstrates excellent teaching qualities and sets a positive example for other instructors regarding appropriate dress, class preparation, punctuality, student assessment, and a student-centered approach to classroom instruction. 
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for students, instructional staff, and advisory committees regarding academic curriculum. 
  • Provides leadership in developing, evaluating, and maintaining curricula and programs that respond to community needs, prepare students for success, and meet the requirements of the regulatory agencies. 
  • Leads and supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies that improve student enrollment, engagement, retention, academic success, externship/internship/clinical participation, and program completion outcomes.  
  • Works proactively with faculty and campus partners to identify barriers to student persistence and implement corrective actions. 
  • In the capacity of a qualified instructor, visit the externship sites if applicable, review the students’ performance, and conduct meetings with students. 
  • Monitors attendance, academic performance, SAP, course progression, and other student success indicators to identify at-risk students early. Develops intervention plans, conducts student success meetings, and collaborates with faculty and student services personnel to improve retention, persistence, and graduation outcomes. 
  • Monitors and ensures that all faculty and students are using Portico for attendance tracking where being used. If not using Portico, monitors and ensures that all faculty are entering attendance for their assigned courses directly after each scheduled class time.  
  • Provides academic advising and coaching to students regarding program progression, academic performance, attendance, career goals, and successful completion of graduation requirements. 
  • Conducts or coordinates regular outreach to at-risk students and documents advising interactions, action plans, referrals, and follow-up activities designed to promote student success and retention. 
  • Develops a schedule of classes in a timely fashion and in consultation with their direct supervisor that is responsive to student needs and educational efficiencies. 
  • Coordinates with their direct supervisor to conduct classroom observations, faculty evaluations, performance reviews, conferences, in-services, and professional development sessions. 
  • Assists their direct supervisor in the hiring, training, development, and supervision of faculty and substitutes to cover classes as needed.
