GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Temporary 1 month opportunity!
The position is responsible and accountable for all aspects of developing a complete Sales bid package. These tasks include determining quantity of materials, calculating weights, developing costs from internal and external sources, generating labor hours and making sound judgments on a variety of structures. Further, this position is responsible for the control and tracking of the won fabrication projects that he/she estimated. This is accomplished through close collaboration with Fabrication personnel and Engineering, Quality Control, Project management, Shipping and other area personnel as required to synchronize and implement a project’s fabrication efficiently, effectively, and on schedule.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED with prior estimating experience. S. Industrial Engineering/Mechanical Engineer degree preferred.
- Demonstrate proficiency of mathematical concepts including basic math, geometry, trigonometry, metric system and accounting principles.
- Demonstrate excellent computer skills with strong working knowledge of spreadsheet applications and estimating software systems.
- Ability to understand blue prints, design drawings, contract specifications and then plan fabrication processes.
- Ability to work independently and resolve problems with sound judgment.
- Must possess strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Clear understanding and effective implementation of Continuous Improvement techniques.
- Ability to plan long/short term project implementations and milestones for tracking completion.
- A minimum of five (5) years steel structure fabrication experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- All tasks and duties of the Estimator Level II and III positions, and may require formal and/or informal training to upgrade skills.
- Responsible and accountable for all aspects of the final Sales Estimate cost summary, as measured against the awarded jobs P&L ledger.
- Facilitator in communicating with operations and outside agencies and vendors to resolve complex and unusual issues in order to determine appropriate cost and schedule impacts.
- Good working knowledge of the estimating software systems, and assists the Estimating Systems Engineer in improving the programs.
- Review, evaluate, and adjust sales estimates for work scope changes created by customer design changes or production variances, as directed by Estimating Manager. Prepare detailed cost documentation for contract extras, as needed by Project Management.
- Act as the primary liaison for Fabrication projects, coordinating all aspects of each project across multiple departments. Ensures that projects are proceeding on schedule and alerts management to any roadblocks or obstacles threatening project completion along with recommendations for recovery/ improvements.
- Review and determine best practices for Fabrication projects including participation in the preplanning process.
