Solventum is seeking Tool and Die Maker candidates to join our team in Irvine CA!

  • Pay: $44.70 - $45.74/hour plus Shift Premium (if applicable)

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Tool and Die Maker, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Performing work requiring a strong competency in Toolroom milling, turning, surface/inner/outer diameter grinding, honing, hand blending, and polishing of deep cavity forming dies.
  • Using Bridgeport style vertical mills, surface grinders, Toolroom lathes, ID/OD grinders, hone, comparators, Toolroom microscope, micrometers, etc.
  • Assisting in designing, constructing, machining, assembling, modifying, adjusting and troubleshooting dies, fixtures, mechanical equipment, and developmental devices to specific tolerances and specifications.
  • Working closely with peers and other coworkers to maximum productivity at production equipment and developing and improving tooling and processes to reduce costs and increase efficiencies.
  • Knowing, applying and evaluating operating principles and mechanical functions used in precision fabrication and building of tools such as punches, dies, jigs, and fixtures.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher (complete prior to start)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of tool room experience
  • Possess a metallurgical background and working knowledge of carbides, tool steels, and alloys
  • Familiarity with rubber and plastic machining
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or holidays as needed
  • Ability to work either a first, second or third shift (depending on shift availability).

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience with heat treatment processes, transfer presses, and progressive dies is strongly preferred
  • Trained and experienced in a variety of mechanical and non-mechanical tasks and/or duties as well as proficient in use of more sophisticated shop tools.
  • Ability to use machines and measuring devices (e.g., lathes, surface grinders, ID/OD grinders, vertical mills, pantographs, calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, scales, etc.). 
  • Ability to maintain close tolerances on tooling modifications.  Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other mechanical drawings required. 
  • Ability to analyze processes for possible improvements.  Must have ability and knowledge to provide direction and support to Apprentice Tool and Die Makers.
  • Understanding of Trigonometry and apply to daily tasks such as determining angles, radiuses, and lengths.  Position normally requires minimum of 8 years to meet basic experience level.  Total time encompasses all work history.
  • Experience with: Maintenance, Systems, Technician, Electro Mechanic, Mechanic.
