Job Summary:
The Business Architect is a thought leader responsible for developing the strategy to deliver the next generation of cloud-based railroad platforms. This role partners with business and technology stakeholders to design solutions to meet business objectives, motivations, and goals. Owns responsibility for gathering and analyzing information and identifying capability gaps that may prevent areas from achieving business goals and objectives. Aligns enterprise strategic goals and objectives with decisions regarding products, organization, capabilities, and key business and IT initiatives. Creates an integrated view of the enterprise using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry standard techniques. Handles the most complex programs involving multiple projects and business areas that have strategic impact and may last for a significant length of time.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and objectives.
- Translate business strategies into actionable business-oriented roadmaps and plans.
- Define the set of strategic, core and support processes that transcend functional and organizational boundaries.
- Identify and describe external entities such as customers, suppliers, and external systems that interact with the business.
- Describe and document which people, resources and controls are involved in the processes.
- Partner with product management and product engineering stakeholders to align business architecture solutions with the technical architecture implementation.
- Partner with product management stakeholders to update and maintain the Application/Product Portfolio (LeanIX) to align with current state and future business architecture state.
- Various IT Governance functions related to business architecture compliance, assurance and metrics.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of railroad business processes, business strategy, and the ability to quickly understand the business issues and data challenges of CSX and the railroad industry.
- Experience in designing and implementing new business processes and changes to existing processes.
- Ability to conceptualize and analyze complex business processes and workflows.
- Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data modeling.
- Experience with the LeanIX platform.
- Experience or familiarity with TOGAF, Zachman Framework or similar architectural framework.
- Detailed understanding of, and experience with application/technology portfolio management processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required in Information Systems/Technology, Operations Management, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering or related major field of study.
- 6 or more years of combined experience required in Business or Technical Architecture.
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED.
- 8 or more years of combined experience required in the Railroad industry, Business Architecture or Technical Architecture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in Information Systems/Technology, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering or related major field of study.
