PRN 

Job Summary:

Provides nursing support & nursing care to patients from infancy to geriatric in the Outpatient Clinic facilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Uses only approved abbreviations.
  • Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.
  • Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, demonstrates process.
  • Understands read back of verbal orders/critical lab values & can state process.
  • Understands procedure to clarify physician orders.
  • Uses standing orders when indicated.
  • Accurately calls report to MD as warranted by condition; reports to other providers as needed.
  • Reports sentinel events or adverse drug reactions or incidents as warranted.
  • Uses final verification before invasive procedures & can verbalize correct process & documents in EHR.
  • Reassesses patient in response to changes in condition after intervention as needed & documents in EHR.
  • Communicates with & provides education to patients, caregivers, & family members in a timely manner (using respect & dignity when dealing with death & dying) & documents in EHR.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient rights.
  • Uses final verification before invasive procedures & can verbalize correct process & documents in EHR.
  • Knowledge of process for verification of Defibrillator self check and Glucometer.
  • Performs & documents physical assessment & reassessment in an accurate, timely & knowledgeable manner.
  • Develops plans of care & treatment as appropriate in a knowledgeable & timely manner.
  • Delivers sedation & pain management pharmaceuticals as ordered in a safe & timely manner & per policies.
  • Follows policy on identification of patients, prevention of wrong site surgery, & time out before procedures.
  • Provides effective & timely communication & documentation in the admission, transfer & discharge of patients.
  • Educates patient & family in preparation for procedure, disease process & discharge plan. Reinforces education on pre and post-op calls.
  • Assists physicians during procedures in a knowledgebase & professional manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of process for procuring medications, storage, & ordering of medications from pharmacy.
  • Demonstrates adherence to policy for the storage & counting of narcotic inventory.
  • Reports adverse events including near misses as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of high-risk medication standards as well as awareness of safety precautions for lookalike/ sound alike drugs
  • Puts into practice procedures for questioning of medication orders; standing orders; & reading back of verbal orders.
  • Checks outdates on medications in a timely manner.
  • Administers medications in an accurate, timely & knowledgeable manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of isolation procedures.
  • Cleans & maintains equipment, including instruments & endoscopy equipment, according to policy.
  • Transports specimens to lab in a safe & timely manner with appropriate labeling & information.
  • Transports instruments & equipment in a safe manner.
  • Maintains audible alarms on monitoring equipment as per policy.
  • Maintains security systems as appropriate.
  • Takes responsibility for ordering & maintaining supplies & equipment as requested.
  • Applies appropriate monitoring devices for delivery of safe patient care.
  • Reports patient condition to physician, team members, & family members as appropriate in a knowledgeable & timely manner.
  • Documents assessments/reassessments in the EHR at appropriate intervals in a timely manner.
  • Participates in EHR reviews as requested.
  • Assists in the development & revision of policies as requested.
  • Maintains appropriate charges & statistics for patient care.
  • Maintains & reviews timecard timely. Communicates adjustments/changes to Manager, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of process for verification of Defibrillator self check and Glucometer.
  • Attends 75% of scheduled department meetings or reviews written minutes of those meetings not attended.
  • Demonstrates correct & safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information & policy & procedure manual. Attends in-services as offered/needed.
  • Maintains current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Able to locate department policies and procedures and actively
