The Senior Software Engineer codes software applications based on business requirements. The Senior Software Engineer work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

This job is within the Medicare risk adjustment finance department.  This department is a combination of finance, actuarial, and technical professionals that collaborate to project future member risk scores, a key measurement of member health and predicted cost, project future revenue as a result of risk adjustment, and communicate these projections to other departments and senior leadership.  As part of this team you will play a key role in the valuation of Risk Adjustment programs.  These programs are an integral part of Humana’s business model and directly impact earnings per share.   

As a Senior Software Engineer you will be designing normalized relational databases optimal for application development and data reporting purposes.  Additionally, this role will be writing stored procedures to automate SQL processes and utilizing query execution plans to optimize already written procedures.  This role requires strong proficiency with the Microsoft SQL Server platform and preferably has additional experience using python to automate ETL process and SQL stored procedures. 

This role will be an integrated part of the larger risk adjustment department and will be involved in a wide array of discussions to better understand underlying business needs from a technical perspective to design and create business solutions to match these needs.  As you grow into the role you’ll be given latitude to rebuild existing processes or create entirely new processes as we work towards a more stable and robust valuation workflow.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
• 3 or more years of experience designing, developing, optimizing and testing of database infrastructure and procedures within Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products
• Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field
• 1 or more years of experience with Python
• 1 or more years of experience with SAS (Proc SQL or SAS)

Work-At-Home Requirements:

• WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.

• A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.  

• Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.

• A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
