Wärtsilä Marine Power, R&D, and Engineering is looking for a Chief Design Engineer to develop new design solutions for 4-stroke engines together with other R&D Engineers.

Chief Design Engineer performs assigned demanding design tasks and engineering work to ensure that products and services meet the required quality standards and actual customer needs.

In this position, you will be participating in new engine development, and customer delivery projects as product care activities. This position provides a good opportunity to learn and grow in design and Engineering within diesel, gas, and multi-fuel 4-stroke engines.
 

Location:

The location for this position is in Vaasa, Finland.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Design engine components and systems (3D models, drawings, feasibility studies) and produce technical specifications
• Ensuring that design is cost-efficient, compliant with design guides, assembly/maintenance optimized, and delivered within the given timetable
• Participate in the development of new design solutions together with other R&D Engineers
• Participate in product care activities
• Giving design-related production support to STH and technical support to other stakeholders
• Provides specialized expertise related to welding technologies to Design and other RDE teams
• Supporting the Design Manager and acting as a deputy when requested
• Prepare design plans for large development projects (cost, interfaces, scope, quality, effort estimation, risks, schedule)
• Actively supports the development of internal design rules, guidelines & and regulations together with other R&D experts

 

Requirements:

 

• B.Sc or M.Sc in Engineering or similar education
• Several years of experience in a design/engineering environment
• Experience with 3D design tool (Siemens NX) and familiarity with the Teamcenter environment
• Knowledge of different manufacturing technologies: forging, casting, welding, sheet metal, AM, etc.
• Ability to solve problems and make decisions
• Good communication, cooperation, management, and teambuilding skills
• Good command of English, both oral and written
• Knowledge of Polarion and cost analysis tools is considered an advantage
