Sr. Cost and Value Engineer

What is the job about?
The Cost & Value Engineer proactively develop cost models and support our possibilities to ad-dress and improve all cost related to sourcing and managing the supplier relationship. The Cost & Value Engineer is responsible for identification of sustainable cost reductions potentials (demand management potentials, should costing projects, value add activities, Kaizen costing, value stream mapping etc.).
Your main responsibilities:
- Having an in-depth understanding of the root cost drivers and efficiency potential for externally sourced components.
- Uncovering the cost savings potentials and actively identify areas of cost that can be impacted and reduced.
- Supporting categories with detailed analysis of cost drivers.
- Evaluating and analyzing suppliers manufacturing processes regarding effectiveness and efficiency and estimate potentials for optimization from cost but also from sustainability perspective.
- Supporting category to simulate the manufacturing process and cost structure of suppliers to provide valuable information for supplier price negotiation.
- Identifying manufacturing inefficiencies (long setups, poor flow, etc.) recalculate product cost based on the elimination of inefficiencies.
- Building several cost models corresponding to different requirements in the categories.
- Developing models and supporting Advanced Purchasing in predicting what a new part should cost.
- Knowing how Manufacturing cost material cost and tooling cost influence the price of externally sourced materials and components.
- Quantifying and isolate all the elements associated with the Price and the product specification.
- Supporting CM with cost modelling to prepare for negotiations with suppliers.
- Translating value opportunities into tangible measures.
- Supporting audit to identify manufacturing inefficiencies (long setups, poor flow, etc. ) recalculate product cost based on the elimination of inefficiencies.
- Converting cost reduction and value opportunities into realistic action plans with timelines and metrics.
- Being primary driver in cost down projects across multiple categories.
- Driving Category Managers to develop business cases for cost reductions opportunities at supplier level as well as Category level.
- Approving business cases, developed by Category Managers.
- Utilizing a combination of supplier-provided information, comparisons of supplier-to-supplier responses to RFQ’s cost breakdown.
- Driving involvement and engagement of internal stakeholders from BD who are driving specification creation.
- Simulating and suggest carbon reduction opportunities across categories with tangible impact assessment – along with impact on cost and other sourcing levers.
- Securing reporting of on-going cost reductions activities to the management team and key stakeholders
- Continuously evaluating and develop relevant tools, Should cost, Activity Based Costing, Value analysis, value stream mapping, etc.
- Establishing a cost database based on various supplier cost information’s.
- Analyzing industry-specific models to estimate general market cost of a product.
- Establishing a database of manufacturing processes that can be used to define the manufacturing processes of various products.
Your background
We imagine that you have:
- 5+ years of relevant work experience as a cost value engineer
- BSc in Engineering (MSc desired)
- Six Sigma Green Belt (Black Belt desired)
- Proven experience in cost & value engineering projects (focus on cost savings)
- Strong background in utilization of should costing software/tools (preferably aPriori)
- Strong communication to all layers of the organization
- Advanced skills in presentations (both in content and in layouts)
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural team and also independently
- Well Organized, self-motivated personality with a “part of a solution” attitude
- Outstanding English skilss, other languages can be an asset
- Excellent knowledge in Excel/PowerPoint
