A Day in the Life

In this role, you will perform a wide variety of complex duties, under general supervision, in a multi-functional environment of labeling, design, development and testing of packaging for medical devices.
You will execute the completion of milestones associated with the Package Engineering and the Product Development Procedure on specific projects. Participate on project development and operations teams to support the release of new products from concept through to Production. Additionally, you will implement process improvements, and support package system changes.
Contribute to cross functional teams to help drive successful results on process and cost improvement opportunities. Work with OEM's, contract manufacturers and internal manufacturing facilities to develop packaging components and design documentation.
  • Development of packaging components and assemblies for medical devices. Supports verification, validation, and implementation of package systems into manufacturing.

  • Continuation activities required to support product labeling, testing and overall compliance requirements

  • Documentation activities associated with the qualification and release of package designs and specifications

  • Coordination and communication of packaging technology and designs with project teams as part of the phase review development process

  • Documentation activities associated with Bill of Materials/final package configurations

  • Design, develop, and test a wide variety of containers used for the protection, display, and handling of products

  • Determine packaging specifications according to the nature of the product, cost limitations, legal requirements, and the type of protection required, considering need for resistance to such external variables as moisture, corrosive chemicals, temperature variations, light, heat, rough handling, and tampering

  • Design package exteriors considering such factors as product identification, sales appeal, aesthetic quality, printing and production techniques

  • Responsibilities may include documentation management and/or coordination of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and may support prototype line development in manufacturing facilities/plants

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 4+ years of packaging engineering experience OR advanced degree and 2+ years of experience

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Packaging Engineering

  • Familiarization with working in a regulated environment

  • Labeling System and Medical Device experience

  • Highly detail oriented

  • Experience working in business systems including Excel and other Microsoft Office programs

  • Demonstrates initiative; results oriented; willingness and ability to institute change

  • Strong process-orientation and strong interest in continuous improvement

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills

  • Effective decision-making skills -- ability to negotiate and balance decisions and priorities across needs of multiple stakeholders

  • Strong analytical skills and judgment

  • Project management skills

  • Leadership skills

  • Skills in the use of computers and have experience with Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
