Laboratory Analyst II, Metals - Knoxville, TN

SUMMARY

A Laboratory Analyst in the Metals Department prepares and/or analyzes samples using a variety of laboratory equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

• Uses balances and sample digestion apparatuses in preparation for analysis of metals.
• Troubleshoots problems with analytical equipment.
• Documents all observations in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Calculates test results.
• Assists in developing analytical methods applicable to particular matrices.
• Performs procedures in accordance with the appropriate regulatory guidelines (e.g. EPA, FDA, GLP, and GMP).
• Demonstrates working knowledge of general lab technique and safety procedures.
• Seeks additional safety precautions when applicable.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education (GED), or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
