Responsibilities

A Senior Defense Health Expert's duties encompass leading technical teams while providing specialized expertise in health-related programs. The role involves analyzing requirements, developing source materials, and consulting with engineers and subject matter experts to prepare technical documentation. They manage proposal development activities including capture management, pre-solicitation planning, and post-submittal activities. The position requires coordinating with multiple agencies, working with matrixed staff, and serving as a liaison between different stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead research and development initiatives for medical countermeasures
  • Manage operational exercises and training programs
  • Provide subject matter expertise on CBRN hazards and biological threats
  • Drive strategic program planning and execution
  • Lead cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies
  • Support laboratory management systems and biological safety protocols
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Maintain active relationships with academic research partners

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 15 years experience, or Master's degree with 10 years experience, or PhD with 8 years of business development experience (including capture, solutioning, and proposal development)
  • Experience with Defense health programs and biological threat pathogens & experience at a U.S. military service institute of infectious diseases
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications/academic research & demonstrated experience collaborating with academic institutions
  • 3+ years of experience managing staff
  • Project/program management expertise & proven track record in proposal management
  • Experience conducting biological familiarization training and laboratory demonstrations
  • US Citizen w/ Active TS/SCI clearance

Desired Qualifications

  • PhD in microbiology, bacteriology, or related biological sciences
  • Military service, veteran status, or government civilian experience preferred
  • History of success in grant writing and research funding acquisition preferred
  • Experience with Joint Mission Planning Tools (JMPT)
  • Familiarity with BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratory operations
