THIS IS A PART-TIME GRANT-FUNDED POSITION (4 - 12 HOURS PER WEEK)
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Associate plans, performs, and analyzes research experiments in various immune cell receptor signaling and acute and chronic inflammatory diseases in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Biochemistry. This position designs and conducts project-related experiments using biochemical, microbiological, immunological, cellular, and molecular biological techniques, consolidates records, and analyzes research data. This position requires the handling of small animals, chemicals, biologicals, and radioactive materials.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, executes, and evaluates various immune cell receptor signaling and acute and chronic inflammatory diseases by implementing biochemical, microbiological, immunological, cellular, and molecular biological techniques.
- Identifies structure-function relationship of signaling molecules.
- Studies protein-protein interactions.
- Investigates molecular mechanism of inhibitor receptor signaling pathway for modulation of T cell signaling and pattern recognition.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and reagents needed to perform scientific experiments.
- Manages animal colony.
- Provides expertise in the research project design, manuscript, and grant writing.
- Plans experiments (design, preparation for the experiment, writing procedure and protocols, writing lab notes), data recording, data analysis, and participates in lab meetings.
- Ensures proper maintenance of equipment.
- Supervises and trains students and postdoctoral scholars research projects and experiments.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biological Science, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of bioscience laboratory experience. Strong publication record in small molecule drug design and synthesis, as demonstrated in multiple first-author papers in medicinal chemistry. Must have completed three (3) years as a Post Doctoral Scholar. (Experience with a variety of biochemical techniques; molecular techniques which include PCR, isolation of genetic materials (RNA, DNA), cloning, and mutagenesis is preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge related to areas of microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, physiology, and inflammatory diseases.
- Ability to learn new techniques,
- Ability to think logically.
- Skill in manuscript and research proposal writing.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
