Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilize plasma, gas or electric arc in welding and composite materials together
- Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions
- Use power saws, hand shears in cutting, beveling, and contouring metal workpieces
- Repair structures by dismantling, reshaping, and reassembling metal components using cutting torches and hand tools
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of local and international building codes/legal requirements
- Design patterns and models for a welding project using specifications contained in a blueprint
- Mount and secure workpieces on production equipment using fork lifts, hoists or hydraulic jacks
- Estimates to determine the amount and cost of materials required for construction
- Mix and apply protective or decorative coat on finished products
- Documents and maintains appropriate records through CMMS and directly with Project Manager
- Adheres to health/safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a risk-free work environment
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols by wearing protective helmet, clothing, gloves, masks, and boots
- Takes part as a team in planning and prioritizing company projects
- Makes well informed decisions regarding company project expenditures
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties locally and out of state as assigned
- Available to work at least 40hrs per week to finish or leave projects safely secured
Summary
This position requires the ability to read blueprints and drawings, take measurements, plan, layout and fabricate structures, various safety and utility items used in arc Thrift Stores properties. Determine what welding equipment and methods to use. Set-up components to specifications, prepare and align parts for welding, join together components, cut through materials using specialized welding equipment, repair machinery, inspect surfaces and structures, and maintain equipment. Reports to Project Manager.
Education and/or Experience Required
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a welder or equivalent certificate in welding from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Must have clean MVR to drive a company vehicle to various work sites.
- Experience working with a diverse workforce.
- Ability to work well with individuals possessing developmental disabilities.
- Experienced with welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
- Energy/Ability to take on fast-paced work and fluctuating deadlines.
- Well-organized, must be able to work as a productive member of a team as well as independently.
Physical Demands
- Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, hazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, climbing ladders, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
