Research Assistant- Thoracic Research - Limited Tenure

Dr. Andrew H. Limper’s laboratory studies lung defense mechanisms and the elimination of fungal infections, such as pneumocystis pneumonia, in patients with impaired immune systems. Lung infections (pneumonias) are particularly life-threatening in individuals with weakened host immunity. The team seeks to discover new methods beyond traditional antibiotics to prevent and combat lung infections in these patients. The Research Assistant will work on testing anti-inflammatory and antifungal agents in mouse models of fungal pneumonia. They will also learn and serve as the primary caretaker for the laboratory’s genetic mouse strains, including managing breeding and genotyping protocols.

Performs various support functions in research laboratory using proper procedures to avoid the risk of laboratory-acquired infection or sample-to-sample contamination. Maintains and cleans equipment and the facility; maintains and restocks supplies; and maintains computer database. Works under direct supervision. Attention to detail is essential while dealing with multiple tasks. Flexibility is important in adjusting to frequent changes in work volume.

Requires a high school diploma or GED. Coursework in mathematics and relevant sciences. Must have previous work experience that demonstrates organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task. Requires manual dexterity, accurate typing, and good communication skills. Must be able to prioritize and adjust to changes in work volume. Experience with Excel software is preferred.
