What you'll be doing:
- Apply your knowledge and skill to profitably underwrite LPL
- Build and manage a book of renewal business, primarily focused on LPL, that is consistent with MKL’s focus on profitable growth
- Underwrite efficiently without sacrificing discipline, diligence and quality service
- Attend industry events, remote and/or in-person, to build recognition and knowledge in all lines of US Pro business
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate through changing market conditions and to respond appropriately as they evolve
- Be a positive reflection on the company by demonstrating integrity and thought leadership in the marketplace
- Collaborate with teammates across all product lines including Markel’s regional platform, BDA, MINT, actuarial, claims, etc.
- Thoroughly adhere to documentation procedures using E2, ERMS, ImageRight, etc., underwriting systems
- Appropriately price and evaluate new and renewal risks using detailed thought analysis from insureds and prospective insureds applications, financials, loss history, and all other pertinent information
- Negotiate terms and pricing with brokers on new and existing business
- Champion, initiate and manage strong, productive and profitable agency/broker/account relationships
- Conduct and lead remote/in-person underwriting meetings with brokers/insureds for US Pro product lines, with an emphasis on LPL
- Work closely with current LPL underwriting team to perform related duties as requested including report preparation, presentations, policy review, special projects and analysis to assist in ensuring the long-term success of the LPL product line
- Contribute to E&O and related line policies, guidelines, product development and data quality innovation initiatives
What we're looking for:
- Minimum of 3+ years current LPL underwriting experience preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Industry designation or professional degree preferred;
- Desire and ability to enhance Markel’s position in the domestic marketplace through external engagement and communication
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that contribute to product line clarity
- Recognized for delivering compelling presentations to any audience
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Must be a collaborative, team player that can provide creative solutions to problems and enjoys a flexible and spontaneous business environment
- Travel as required when appropriate
- Ability to work in the office on a hybrid work schedule - three days in the office, two remote.
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The base salary range for the (Sr. Underwriter) position is $84k - $114k/year with a 25% bonus potential
