Job Purpose:
 

Delivery of underwriting services to our clients. Assessing medical risks above the Automatic acceptance limits for all products or requiring assessment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of all cases requiring medical assessment by preparing a synopsis of the medical information provided and recommending a decision for each case

  • Facilitate medical evidence gathering

  • Providing case updates for medically underwritten applications

  • Maintenance of department statistics

  • Develop business reports for accurate business management

General Duties and Tasks:


Assessing life, critical illness, and income protection applications on a daily basis and recommending a decision within agreed service standards

  • Assessing underwriting evidence from customers, doctors and third parties to facilitate underwriting decision making

  • Working with customers and distributors to establish and maintain efficient operations of all relevant underwriting and administration arrangements

  • Liaison with Reinsurer on underwriting assessments

  • Liaison with Underwriting Service providers as required

  • Preparing client member assessment reports

  • Contributing ideas and support to the positive development of the underwriting practices in Group Risk Services

  • Electronic underwriting Rule development, maintenance and testing in accordance with agreed standards

  • Being involved in project work on an ad hoc basis.

  • System testing based on system specifications and test scripts written

  • Underwriting report preparation

Plus any additional duties and responsibilities that may reasonably be expected to be undertaken in accordance with the role

Key Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of Group Life, Critical Illness and Income protection products

  • Medical Underwriting experience

  • Computer literate and familiar with packages such as Excel, Word and Power point.

  • Excellent communication skills. 

  • Strong organisational skills

Desirable

  • Experience in electronic underwriting rule development

  • Previous system testing experience

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • GR1 and Underwriting certificate or diploma desirable but not essential

  • Self starting and works effectively as part of a team

  • Strong administration skills

  • High degree of organisation and flexibility

  • Numerical aptitude and attention to detail

  • Setting priorities, agreeing and meeting deadlines and managing clients’ expectations
