Director, External Communications

The Director, External Communications will report to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Communication as a member of Onity’s Corporate Communications team. While this is an individual contributor role, close partnership with leaders within the Company’s Investor Relations, Servicing, Originations, and Growth business areas is essential to the position. This role is primarily responsible for public relations, including engaging with media outlets and trade publications, and identifying opportunities to promote the Company’s initiatives, accomplishments and capabilities. With the goal of increasing external awareness to enhance the Company’s brand reputation and amplify positive news to support growth opportunities, the Director will disseminate information through multiple mediums. This includes responsibility for press announcements, article contribution, executive and subject matter expert interviews, speaking opportunities, award submissions, and external-facing presentations. This role will provide necessary communications expertise to help strengthen and position the Onity brand among the public, including the mortgage and financial services industries.
Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Works with trade, financial and other relevant news outlets to promote the company’s capabilities, strengths, industry expertise
- Identifies thought leadership and article contribution opportunities with media outlets (online and offline)
- Identifies company and individual award opportunities and prepares award submissions; further promotes awards to garner broader awareness
- Develops and publishes press releases
- Works with business leaders to identify newsworthy initiatives, reflecting the organization’s strategic goals, to enhance public reputation
- Prepares timely responses to media inquiries
- Supports business leaders by preparing necessary external communications for media and other external stakeholder engagement, including supporting the Chief Strategy Officer and Vice President, Marketing to develop public relations programs to support business growth through reputation enhancement, and Vice President, Investor Relations to engage the investment community
- Partners with SVP, Corporate Communications on strategic, enterprise-level communications initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree preferred or equivalent work experience in a directly related field.
- 10+ years of experience with a focus on in-house communications and public relations.
- Demonstrated experience in leading, creating, and executing communications strategies, plans, and content for large-scale and multi-brand organizations.
- Financial Services Industry-related experience required – specifically, an understanding of mortgage banking (originations and servicing), and/or real estate.
- Must have proven, established relationships with the press and media sources.
- Strong proficiency using communication tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, digital and social platforms, and virtual meeting platforms (i.e., Zoom, MS Teams).
- Excellent writing skills to communicate various topics clearly and concisely
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Analyze and present complex information concisely with clarity.
- Partner with all levels of the organization to ensure effective implementation of time-sensitive initiatives and identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
- Work with internal and external parties, across locations and time zones, in the execution of projects and other initiatives
- Successful track record of developing strong relationships across a broad range of leadership functions allowing for effective influencing and change.
The salary range for this position is expected to be $120,000 – $155,000 per year, depending on geographic location, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for annual bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.
