We also work with policymakers, industry leaders, and concerned parents, caregivers, and teachers to improve the media and education landscape for kids, families, and schools.

Common Sense Media is seeking an all-star Business Development Intern who can help our Business Development & Partnerships team over the summer. This is a great opportunity for any individual looking to gain practical business development experience at a rapidly growing, national nonprofit that works across the media and technology industries. The ideal candidate will be a great team player who is detail-oriented and can work both collaboratively and independently.

The Business Development Intern works closely with the Business Development & Partnerships team and collaborates across the organization to support a broad range of efforts, with a primary focus on managing existing partnerships spanning the consumer and education space. 

The primary functions of this role will be based on current team priorities but may include support of partnership management; support of new business development; analysis/research of partner news and industry trends; creation of research, prep, briefing, and presentation materials; support of proposal development; and support for a variety of internal team projects. 

LOCATION: San Francisco, CA, or remote

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Partnerships

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Conduct ongoing research to monitor industry trends across the media, entertainment, and tech industries
  • Brainstorm and provide recommendations around target prospects and/or key partners and how we might collaborate to leverage our capabilities and further our organizational mission 
  • Research prospective partners and provide company overviews to educate internal teams
  • Monitor partner platforms to capture and record screenshots 
  • Develop Google Slides presentations that help tell the story of our content capabilities and expertise or that highlight key projects to partners and/or internal teams 
  • Provide general administrative support for the Business Development & Partnerships team (drive organization, asset management, Salesforce organization, etc.)
  • Contribute to quality of written content, including proofreading, formatting, and editing documents
  • Lead key projects that have been identified to support and strengthen the partnerships team

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE ON YOUR APPLICATION: 

  • Candidates with interest in or direct experience in business development, partnerships/account management experience, or media/tech industry are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Adept at Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc.), with strong emphasis on Google Slides skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent communicator 
  • Great attention to detail and follow-through
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves to dive in to support a diverse range of projects 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Ideal start date: June 20, 2023.
  • Ideal end date: August 25, 2023.
  • Hours: ~20 hours/week
  • Interns need to be available to attend weekly educational Lunch & Learns. Lunch & Learns will be every Wednesday from 12 p.m.–1 p.m. (PST). 
  • We will work with your clinical or internship office for school credit if necessary.
