About the role

Job Description:

A Patient Access Acute Coordinator is responsible for leading the daily excellent customer service and facilitating
the registration and scheduling process for patients and visitors at Intermountain Health in multiple service lines.
The Coordinator ensures the caregiver’s accurate and complete information is collected and entered into the
system, verifies insurance and eligibility, collects co-pays and balances, follows up on pending issues, and meets
all regulatory guidelines. The caregiver also adheres to Intermountain Health's policies and procedures, as well as
federal and state regulations regarding patient privacy, confidentiality, estimates, no surprises/price transparency, etc

Hours are 8:00am-4:30pm
Essential Functions

• Greet and assist patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner. • Obtain and verify patient demographic, financial, and insurance information.

• Register and schedule patients for appointments, tests, and procedures.

• Collect and process co-pays, deductibles, and balances due at the time of service and complete end-ofday balance process.

• Provide patients with information on estimates, financial assistance, payment plans, and charity care.

• Explain and obtain signatures on consent forms, disclosures, policies, and disclosures.

• Responsible for ensuring the adherence to Federal and state regulations, including the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).

• Requires a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, insurance protocols, and hospital policies to safeguard patient rights and ensure compliance.

• Provide patients with directions, maps, and parking information.

• Coordinate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and quality care.

• Document and update patient records in the electronic health system and demonstrate competency in downtime procedures.

• Follow up on pending issues, such as prior authorizations, referrals, and estimates.

• Manage escalated account issues from team. Review input and audits quality to assure accuracy in all aspects of the position, particularly patient type, financial class, and correct insurance.

• Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the department.

Qualifications • High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.

• Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office, internet and email required.

• Experience with Epic preferred.

• Customer service experience, preferably in a healthcare setting, is required.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

• Employed in an IH Patient Access Department for at least 1 year.

• Passed the Patient Access Level 2 Exam (90% or better)-offered quarterly

• Achieved a minimum score of top 50% performance on the last Quarterly Snapshot and/or Annual review.

• Achieved and maintained a Clean HAR rate of 95% or higher.

• Achieved a minimum score of 95% on QA from the QA team

. Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need for the caregiver to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

• Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients and visitors that require caregivers to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate supplies and equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

• For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
