These reports will reflect the capacity being utilized by an IBM z/OS or z/VM mainframe platform as well as projected future utilization, including Logical Partition (LPAR), domain, application, customer, IAC, or ASC or will address a performance issue.  The capacity may reflect any specific machine resource (e.g. Processors, SYSPLEX configuration (such as coupling facility capacity analysis), DASD, Robotic Tape Library activity, etc.) for which data is being collected in record logs, MICS, SMF/RMF, or vendor software.
  • Utilize government approved software products, to take or recommend corrective action to alleviate performance bottlenecks.
  • Provide planning, development, and implementation of production software performance standards and procedures.
  • Perform planning, testing, and document requirements for systems tuning. Document and implement required changes to increase efficiency of performance, and documenting deficiencies for review using government approved software and processes.
  • Provide written and oral analysis and provide detailed information on causes of system workload issues and make recommendations for workload management changes.
  • Perform analysis, including capacity analysis, workload analysis and assist with the planning and coordination for implementation of system hardware data configurations (HCDs) in support of system migrations as well as hardware/software upgrades and migrations (both within the local site and among other DISA). The analysis activities shall be documented using government approved software products and processes.
  • Develop and deliver plans, capacity analysis, and reports in support of application movement between LPARS as well as LPAR consolidation efforts.
  • Use government approved software tools and products (including IBM SMP/E, IEBGENER (a general copy utility), IEBCOPY (a general copy utility), FTP, and SFTP to assist in the implementation of z/OS upgrades.
  • Plan, develop, execute and document performance studies using standard DISA IBM z/OS tool sets to optimize IBM z/OS operating environment. Document capacity findings and recommendations using government approved documentation software.
  • Conduct technical and diagnostic analysis of IBM z/OS and IBM z/VM mainframe system hardware and software systems to identify, document and make recommendations regarding system abnormality trends.
  • Plan, define, and conduct reviews of current and projected workload to determine capacity saturation points.
  • Plan, develop, document and implement performance evaluation techniques, optimization procedures, models, and other improvements to IBM z/OS and IBM z/VM hardware and software systems for use by other IT specialists. Assist in the development of software metrics for use by personnel and customers.
