Job Summary:
The VP of Finance and Accounting support and assists the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Financial, and Internal Audit Officer in the establishment of major economic objectives, business strategies, and policies and procedures for the company. The VP of Finance and Accounting directs and coordinates all the financial affairs of the organization and subsidiaries according to GAAP, financial principles, and donors’ rules and regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Support the DCAO in the development of financial management strategies and contributes in the development of the organization’s strategic goals.
- Advise and supports the DCAO on financial planning budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters.
- Ensure credibility of Finance and Accounting, by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial statements, and forecasts.
- Partner with senior leaders to ensure the company hits revenue targets.
- Provides support on fiscal training to other V-suite and C-suite executives.
- Lead, manage, coach, and mentor a team of over 50 staff.
Finance and Accounting:
- Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization with over $1B in revenue by developing and monitoring organizational budgets and proposal budgets against expenses to proactively mitigate the risk of over/under runs.
- In conjunction with the DCAO builds a financial planning and analysis function to monitor key financial indicators and dashboards and provide a clear interpretation of financial performance and results.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process.
- Standardize and consolidates financial reporting.
- Prepares and supports the DCAO on financial reporting and analysis presentations to the C-suite and Board of Directors.
- Improve administrative and operational accounting services for accounts payable and accounts receivable units to manage cash flow efficiently.
- Oversees the annual external audits (Financial, 401K, Programs, etc.), Tax preparation, and 990 Form.
- Oversees the continuous development and implementation of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and other financial and reporting systems.
- Oversee and negotiate Indirect Cost Proposals with HHS or other entities.
- Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
- Partners with the Internal Audit team to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and implements corrective actions.
- Oversees and manages Department’s annual operating budget.
- Partners with procurement to ensure smooth coordination and proper life cycle.
Other Functions:
- Assist with the development and administration of revenue generation activities, including fundraising, and business development for non-profit, for-profit, and grants applications.
- Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Master’s degree with at least 15 years of direct experience in a financial leadership role
- At least 10 years non-profit finance experience
- At least 10 years of experience in state and federal regulations and guidelines
- At least 10 years of state and federal grant management experience
- 10-15% travel may be required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics, and/or CPA designation with fifteen (15) years of direct experience in financial leadership roles.
- Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), Finance, or related field.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential.
- Strong problem-solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of the workstation and other office equipment. Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
