Position Summary:

The Underwriting Workbench Tech Lead (Senior Manager, Application Development) will be responsible for all aspects of application design, development and implementation in addition to supporting maintenance and day-to-day operations of the technology platform(s) assigned. The Senior Manager may have oversight and/or support of onshore and offshore developers and other technology professionals as required.  They will meet with customers, develop current state and future state workflow diagrams, as well as write solution design documents. They will build ground-level skills on the underwriting and rating solutions so that they can drive best practices and train and support new resources on the underwriting and rating solutions.

The ideal candidate will have prior software development experience building P&C underwriting platforms.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and build full-stack enterprise applications on Unqork's codeless platform and Coherent’s rating tools
  • Present solution proposals and provide technical guidance to project teams
  • Player/Coach Role where you will become an expert at our Front-End and Rating systems, and help the organization build skill excellence in these tools.  In the beginning, expect to be hands-on coding 20-40% of the time to solve complex issues and build technical expertise.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the systems ensuring all feeds to other systems are balanced and system is performing as expected.
  • Manage all phases of system development and enhancements as defined by business needs.
  • Work with other segments of IT for architecture and integration needs
  • Work with business units to problem solve and design solutions
  • All other relevant duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Software or Information Systems.
  • Any combination of 7 years experience with technology development and implementation in the insurance industry with a progressive track record of leading various aspects of technology operations.
  • Web development experience (HTML, Javascript, modern Javascript libraries)
  • API development experience
  • Working knowledge of RESTful APIs
  • Working knowledge of SQL / noSQL Databases
  • Working knowledge of E&S insurance
  • Expert knowledge of development and design methodologies.
  • Ability to take initiative, guide, and influence others toward goal accomplishment.
