Job Summary

The Community Work Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at non-profit organizations that serve the public interest. 

Goals of this program include:

  • Develop interest in public service through employment with TAMIU and be assigned to local non-profit, government, or community-based organizations.

  • Apply skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom. 

  • Enhance career competencies, such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership. 

  • Articulate how experiences will shape personal, academic, and professional pursuits.

Position Overview


The Marketing Program Intern will support the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring George Washington’s legacy through large-scale community events that promote unity, tourism, and education. This role is ideal for students interested in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, or event promotion. Interns will gain hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, and campaign planning while contributing to one of Laredo’s most historic celebrations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and execution of marketing campaigns for WBCA events such as McMonday, the Jalapeño Festival, the IBC Youth Parade, and the Air Show, and many more.

  • Create and schedule engaging social media content, including graphics, videos, and interactive posts.

  • Support the development of marketing reports and sponsorship presentations using data insights and promotional outcomes.

  • Help design flyers, posters, and other promotional materials to be used in both print and digital formats.

  • Contribute to public relations efforts by coordinating outreach with media outlets and community partners.

  • Assist in managing Google Ads, social media analytics, and other digital tools to track engagement and improve campaign effectiveness

  • Participate in staff meetings and event briefings, offering creative input and support during event execution.

  • Provide general clerical and administrative support to ensure smooth communication across departments.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.

  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate
