Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Financial Services, the Lead Cashier provides lead functions to the Cashiering Office. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing cashiering operations, including cash receipts, deposits, third‑party billing, payroll check distribution, student payment posting, departmental deposits, and the preparation of financial reports and audit work papers. The Lead Cashier serves as a primary resource for students, staff, faculty, and external agencies regarding fees, payments, refunds, and financial transactions.
This position requires strong analytical skills, customer service competency, accuracy in financial processing, and the ability to interpret policies and regulations. Occasional overtime may be required during peak processing times and payroll warrant distribution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform cashier duties including processing payments, receiving and balancing funds, preparing departmental deposit journal entries, posting student account payments, and submitting change order requests.
- Provide detailed student account support by analyzing account activity, reconciling fees and payments, explaining transactions, and processing refund-related inquiries.
- Oversee daily cashiering operations and serve as lead for a small team, supporting workflow, training, accuracy, and adherence to procedures.
- Prepare financial reports, maintain complex spreadsheets, and review documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards and regulations.
- Serve as main campus contact for parking permit sales and related transactions; participate in testing upgrades and implementations of financial and parking systems.
- Respond to telephone, email, and in‑person inquiries; communicate University policies to students, staff, faculty, and external agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in financial record keeping that demonstrates the knowledge and abilities listed.
• Experience to include one (1) year of cash handling experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial record‑keeping methods, mathematical concepts, and general office practices.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to analyze complex accounting problems, review and reconcile financial data, prepare statements/reports, and make correcting entries.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), web‑based systems, and automated accounting or student financial systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Transact).
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise tact, courtesy, good judgment, and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work independently, apply sound judgment, and manage workload with accuracy and efficiency
