Research Assistant I

Summary

The Cardiac Regeneration Laboratory in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a Research Assistant to support the development of innovative strategies for human disease, specifically focusing on the translation of our gene therapies for heart failure. Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, this role performs responsible research work involving the planning, execution, and occasional supervision of projects centered on mammalian cell culture maintenance and molecular cloning workflows in accordance with general plans. 

Job Duties

• Performs responsible research work that involves preparing, conducting, planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects, following general plans approved by the supervisor.
• Designs and conducts research experiments involving human subjects and tissues.
• Collects, compiles, and analyzes data from research projects.
• Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for studies.
• Documents and interprets the results of experiments and reports to the principal investigator.
• Prepares IACUC and IRB protocols
• Selects, evaluates, and determines appropriate research procedures.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
• Handling animals and perform cardiac surgeries

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
• Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
