Summary

The Prince George’s Publick Playhouse for the Performing Arts seeks qualified Box Office, Ushers, and Technicians for our 26-27 Performance Season. Part-time staff are W2 employees, accrue sick leave, and must pass a background check. Hours vary month-to-month, based on shows and events.

The Prince George’s Publick Playhouse for the Performing Arts is a part of the Department of Parks and Recreation – Prince George’s County and The Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission. Our season runs September 2026-June 2027. We are looking for qualified lighting and sound designers, as well as seasoned stage managers for upcoming productions. Ushers/Box Office can be cross-trained and work in both roles as needed. We present/host a variety of theatre, dance, music, films, classes, workshops, and children’s performances throughout the season.

Examples of duties

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Box Office
    • Duties include phone sales; will call during shows; serving as front desk/reception for building visitors during non-show hours.
  • Technician
    • Duties include running boards for events; load in/load out/strike after events; and working backstage during events.
    • There are no rehearsals for most of our events so experience working live events and doing lights/sound on the fly is required.
  • Usher
    • Duties include checking tickets at door; assisting patrons to their seats; handing out programs; and maintaining lobby/restroom cleanliness before/after show.
Technicians
  • Compensation based on experience, $18-$24/hour.
  • Shifts/hours/days vary based on events (some months busier than others); schedule is sent out monthly and techs are scheduled based on their availability; schedule is not consistent/regular.
  • Prior tech experience a must; light board op (ETC board), sound board op, Q-Lab, live mixing (concerts), run crew, running projector, follow spot, etc.
  • Duties include running boards for events; load in/load out/strike after events; and working backstage during events.
Box Office
  • Compensation based on experience, $16-$17.50/hour.
  • Cover weekday box office shifts (8:15 to 1pm or 12:30-5pm, a couple days/week). These shifts would be consistent each week. Additional evening/weekend shifts will be available in the Fall.
  • Past Box Office & customer service experience – and a love for the performing arts.
  • Duties include phone sales; will call during shows; serving as front desk/reception for building visitors during non-show hours.
Ushers
  • Compensation based on experience, $16-$17/hour.
  • Shifts/hours/days vary based on events (some months busier than others); schedule is sent out monthly and ushers are scheduled based on their availability; schedule is not consistent/regular.
  • Prior experience ushering/FOH a plus – and a love for the performing arts
  • Duties include checking tickets at door; assisting patrons to their seats; handing out programs; and maintaining lobby/restroom cleanliness before/after show.
  • There are no rehearsals for most of our events so experience working live events and doing lights/sound on the fly is a huge plus.

Working Conditions/Environment
  • This position operates in an active performing arts facility that presents a variety of live and educational programming throughout the year. Employees must be flexible and available to work varying schedules, including evenings and weekends, based on event and production schedules.
