JOB SUMMARY: An Underwriting Team Lead is responsible for evaluating the eligibility of an applicant for loan application processing, assisting in training of new underwriters, review escalations for decision making, and second level review of ineligible or denied loans. Underwriting Team Lead will verify the applicant's information, including their credit score and other valid documents, ensuring that the applicant fulfills the loan application's parameters. You may be required to work with senior mortgage underwriters on loan exceptions having the authority to withdraw and decline loans. The Underwriting Team Lead will be involved in one or several types of mortgage lending. You may also be required to respond directly to individual and investor audits.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adherence to mortgage product guidelines
- Achieve and maintain highest level of regulatory compliance in conjunction with minimal loan defect rates while meeting and exceeding production metrics
- Develop, implement, and drive quality standards consistent with company policies and investor guidelines
- Manage pipeline and report project timelines and results
- Foster positive attitudes and professionalism by focusing on resolution-based approach to problem solving and identifying best practices, process improvements and mortgage loan system efficiencies
- Review, analyze, and determine mortgage loan compliance with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and Rural Development guidelines
- Ensure accuracy of all loan documentation
- Clearly communicate decisions and the justification behind those decisions to the appropriate parties
- Second level review of newly hired underwriters loan files
- Second level review of declined mortgage loans
- Train current and newly employed staff of guideline changes as needed
- Assist in defining and implementing process improvements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of Residential Mortgage Underwriting.
- Conventional Agency experience required. Non-Conforming, Jumbo, FHA, VA, Bond Program experience preferred.
- Experience with customer service, decision making, and analyzing information.
- Excellent organizational, written and telephone communication skills.
- Deep understanding of pipeline management and system supported workflows is required.
- Must have a strong understanding of multiple investor guidelines and regulatory compliance
