The Department of Economic Security, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Human Services Specialist 2. DDD provides individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families, services and supports that are flexible, high quality, and member driven. These services provide individuals with opportunities to exercise their rights and responsibilities of independent decision-making and engagement in the community.

Applicants for this position cannot be licensed or certified by the DDD Office of Licensing Certification and Regulation, cannot have a principal interest in or have a spouse or close family with principal interest in a DDD Qualified Vendor Agreement, and cannot be employed or subcontracted by a DDD Qualified Vendor.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Conducts eligibility interviews; reviews eligibility referral/redetermination; tracks redetermination; compiles information regarding eligibility determination/redetermination from a variety of sources in order to make recommendations on DDD eligibility determinations.
• Receives and screens applications and refers applicants to community resources as appropriate.
• Writes comprehensive progress notes, sets-up new member files and reviews documentation, makes eligibility determinations, researches disability diagnoses.
• Corresponds with families on initial applications, denial of service notices, etc. Attends training and meetings.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:
• Federal and State statutes and agency policies and procedures relating to the care and assistance for individuals with developmental disabilities, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Principles and practices of case management, Community resources
• Medical and behavioral health issues and terminology.
• Principles of applied behavioral interventions, Child development and human development principles.
• Procurement and purchasing practices, Crisis intervention techniques, social work practices.


Skills In:
• Oral and written communication, Developing, evaluating, and maintaining member eligibility plans.
• Interviewing, counseling, and interacting with members and family members.
• Conducting needs assessments, Problem identification and resolution
• Interpersonal relations as applied to contacts with members, representatives of other governmental and community organizations, and the public.
• Coordinate and facilitate eligibility interviews as needed, Using various computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).


Ability to:
• Work independently and within diverse work teams.
• Organize and manage eligibility case load.
• Document files and information within the required/mandated timelines.
• Maintain confidentiality.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate for this position will have:
• Possess two (2) years of professional experience coordinating social service activities (e.g., ISPs, client referral for services, community services, etc.) OR One (1) year as a Human Service Specialist I in Arizona State Service OR
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited colle
