Description

Shaping bilingual teaching and culture for tomorrow.

Coleg Sir Gar has an exciting and rare opportunity for a Head of Bilingual Culture and Pedagogy to join our award-winning teaching & learning Directorate on a permanent basis.
Join us as our new Head of Bilingual Culture and Pedagogy and play a leading role in shaping the future of Welsh language and identity across our college. This is an exciting opportunity to champion bilingual teaching and learning, inspire staff and learners, and embed Welsh culture at the heart of college life. We’re looking for an ambitious, creative leader who can drive innovation in pedagogy, celebrate and promote our national identity, and ensure that bilingualism is a lived, visible strength in everything we do.

As Head of Bilingual Culture and Pedagogy, the post holder will play a key role in the development and implementation of College strategies, policies and procedures in the areas of Bilingualism, Welsh language and Welsh Culture. This role will report to the Directorate of Teaching, Learning and Education and will also work closely with the Director of Learner Progression and Partnerships to implement the vision for the continual transformation of Bilingual pedagogy and culture.

The Purpose of the Role

Pedagogy
  • To lead the continual transformation of bilingual pedagogy, supporting staff and curriculum leaders to design and deliver high-quality Welsh-medium and bilingual learning that drives innovation, inclusion, and learner progression.
  • To inspire and empower learners to develop their Welsh language skills, ensuring they experience meaningful bilingual opportunities that enhance their learning, confidence, and future employability.
  • To build staff capability and confidence in bilingual teaching through professional learning, mentoring, and the creation of frameworks, resources, and exemplar practice that embed Welsh meaningfully in every classroom and digital environment.
Culture
  • To foster a vibrant bilingual culture across the college by celebrating Welsh language, heritage, and identity through events, learner voice, and partnerships that normalise and value bilingualism in daily college life.
  • To champion the cultural and employability benefits of Welsh, building strong external partnerships and creating opportunities for learners and staff to showcase bilingualism regionally and nationally.
  • To act as a visible ambassador for Welsh language and identity within and outside the college, modelling pride in bilingualism and inspiring both staff and learners to see it as integral to personal, educational, and professional success.
This role is pivotal to our vision and the future of bilingualism and you will work closely with the Director of Teaching, Learning and Education, the Director of Progression and Partnerships and the Vice Principal for Curriculum and Quality to challenge assumptions, explore opportunities and shape the future bilingual learning experience for all those who work and learn in our college.

Shortlisting is likely to be completed week commencing 6th October 2025. If you are successful during shortlisting, interviews are likely to be held week commencing 20th October 2025.
