Job Overview

The Senior Associate Dean of Graduate Programs will manage the graduate programs within the College of Arts & Sciences and serve as a key leadership role, acting as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert in graduate program management. Reporting directly to the Dean, the role is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies that optimize graduate enrollment, ensure program sustainability, and advance institutional goals.

The position provides strategic leadership in enrollment planning and long-term strategy to enhance competitiveness and student success, while partnering with marketing and communications across the university to highlight the unique value of the College’s graduate programs. It works closely with academic leadership, campus partners, and resource planning units to ensure graduate priorities are integrated into the broader mission of the College, using enrollment trends, yield data, and student metrics to guide decision-making. The role also coordinates with key stakeholders—including admissions, marketing, and academic affairs—to strengthen alignment and collaboration, identify inefficiencies in enrollment processes, and implement solutions that improve recruitment, retention, and completion outcomes. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in admissions policies and practices, enrollment management trends, financial aid, registration best practices, and marketing. Direct experience in recruitment, budgeting, personnel management, and the use of information systems to promote efficiency is essential.

The role also has responsibility for policy development, compliance, and graduate union management for the College programs, including oversight of College PhD slot allocation, adherence to GAGE contracts, coordination with finance teams on grants and fellowships, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies.

Work Interactions

Under the supervision of the Dean, the position collaborates extensively with the Vice Deans, the Joint Office of Graduate Studies, the Academic and Admissions Offices, the Office of Merit Aid, College of Arts & Sciences Budget, Planning, and Finance Office, College of Arts & Sciences Communications Office, and departmental graduate programs and their directors. Additional key partnerships include Revenue and Receivables, the Office of Assessment and Decision Support, the GMS Core Team, Employee and Labor Relations, and other offices whose work impacts graduate enrollment and student experience. At times, provide supervision of staff overseeing tasks pertinent to CAS graduate programs.
