Dow is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join our team in Houston, Texas.

In this role, you will become a member of a highly collaborative global capital engineering organization that is made up of several engineering disciplines including Civil, Piping, Mechanical, Instrumentation, and Process Automation.

You will provide expertise for the design of capital projects valued $10MM or greater in the electrical engineering discipline.  You apply applicable design criteria, design tools, best practices, and established work processes when creating the documentation required for the installation of electrical equipment in new or existing process plants. 

With support from the Peer/Technical Coach, you will quickly learn and effectively apply Dow design tools and Dow work processes.


Responsibilities

  • Aid in the development of scopes, estimates, schedules, design strategies and required resources on projects.
  • Design electrical systems that are safe, reliable, economical, constructible, and maintainable in accordance with Dow standards.
  • Coordinate the activities of other designers to accomplish electrical design of projects.
  • Exchanges technical information with peers, other engineering disciplines, and suppliers.
  • Uses CAE/CAD tools to create complex detailed design drawings and documentation used for construction bid packages and for inquiring/ordering electrical equipment.
  • Independently performs electrical design functions in the following areas:  Grounding, Lighting, Communications, Power distribution, Schematic development, Sizing Calculations, Electrical layouts.
  • Understands, develops, and uses many different types of power distribution engineering documentation, such as P&IDs, One line Diagrams, Three line diagrams, and Schematics.
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of electrical distribution equipment to new and retrofit installations. 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED/equivalent.
  • A minimum 8 years of relevant experience (e.g. electrical design in the area of heavy industrial, petrochemical, refinery, or utility power systems)
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards (NFPA, ANSI, NEC).
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% annually domestically and/or internationally.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.


Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Must be able to do fieldwork in an operating chemical plant, which includes taking field measurements and climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Work in a petrochemical environment where hard hat, fire retardant clothing, hearing protection, and eye protection will be required for field work.

Preferred Skills

  • An associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • 10+ years of electrical design experience in power on capital projects.
  • Electrical equipment sizing and selection experience.
  • Ability to develop designs in 3D modeling software.
