About the role
A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is growing and is seeking a highly motivated Senior Water Resources Engineer, with 7+ years of relevant experience, to join our growing team of design professionals in our Herndon, VA office. The right candidate would primarily complete water resources engineering tasks for roadway and bridge projects supporting the transportation group but would also assist on other water resources projects including drainage improvements, SWM retrofits, floodplain modeling, and stream/ecological restoration. Responsibilities
- Produce construction plans, specifications, and construction estimates.
- Design stormwater management systems including open and closed storm drain systems.
- Complete calculations, models and reports in support of Water Resource related projects including SWM, erosion and sediment control and drainage design.
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for open channels, floodplains, and bridges.
- Obtain permit approvals from federal, state, and local agencies.
- Coordinate internally with other AMT engineers on a wide variety of projects.
- Coordinate externally with clients and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure project deliverables are complete, meet client requirements, and follow QA/QC procedures.
Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Equivalent.
- Professional Engineer license preferred; Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) Exam required.
- Minimum 7 years of water resources related experience including design and reporting.
- Strong MicroStation/Geopak/InRoads/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills.
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling experience (HydroCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PC-SWMM, and similar)
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices of related technical areas.
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently or within project teams.
- Team-spirited, focused and able to make independent decisions.
- Organizational, coordination, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
