Position Summary

Contribute to improved scientific understanding of fine particulate matter (PM) by conducting and interpreting laboratory analyses of PM properties. Manage laboratory and logistics operations of the Surface Particulate Matter Network (SPARTAN).

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to advance scientific understanding of PM.
  • Manage laboratory and logistics operations in the Martin Lab to assess the mass and chemical composition of fine particulate matter collected from multiple cities.
  • Supervise undergraduate and Master's students in contributing to these operations.
  • Solve practical problems relating to difficulties with instrumentation.
  • Identify technical or procedural improvements in methods.
  • Assist with grant preparation and reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in environmental engineering or related discipline.
  • Three years of experience in laboratory analyses of PM chemical composition.
  • Experience working with SPARTAN.
  • Experience with ion chromatography, x-ray fluorescence, and gravimetric analysis.

Salary Range

$48,000.00 - $86,900.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
