What you will do:
- Supervise and direct drilling crews performing geotechnical and environmental test borings.
- Operate and maintain drill rigs using methods such as mud rotary, solid stem, hollow stem auger, and rock coring.
- Drive and operate drill rigs or semi-trucks to job sites; perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Conduct soil borings and rock coring in varied soil and rock conditions, typically ranging from 5 to 100+ feet deep.
- Enforce adherence to National Drilling Association safety standards and foster a strong safety culture.
- Collaborate with utility contractors and project teams to prepare sites prior to drilling.
- Prepare accurate field logs, collect soil samples, and complete DOT-required paperwork and other compliance records.
- Complete timesheets, expense reports, and other required documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Moves materials weighing up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Traverses job sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
- Positions self to access tools and materials in various locations.
- Operates tools requiring fine motor skills.
- Ascends/descends into job site areas to complete inspections and data collection.
- Conducts visual assessments of task quality and job site safety.
- Remains in a stationary position for extended periods.
What you will bring:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience operating drilling rigs preferred; minimum of 2 years geotechnical drilling experience strongly desired.
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
- Leadership experience in supervising crews is a plus.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes required (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
- Current medical examiner’s certificate/health card required.
- Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc).
- Basic proficiency in completing digital field logs, timesheets, and expense reporting systems.
- Primarily field-based role must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, as required by the project, client, or hiring manager.
- The role generally involves 45–55 hours per week, with the possibility of evening or weekend assignments as project needs arise.
