About the role

Smartsheet is looking for our next Senior Software Engineer to help us build and drive some of our projects and operational initiatives in the MONDO team. This team owns Tier 1 services, including the monolithic core app deployments, databases, and several supporting components, as well as services which tie together various Smartsheet feature services and Finance.

This is a highly visible area where we are having significant investment. In particular, you will help us with managing high volume databases, supporting projects to decouple services / data from the monolithic legacy app and shared databases, as well as ongoing performance and reliability improvements of various infrastructure. You have experience in performing MySQL operational tasks, such as running ad-hoc queries, creating users with specific grants, standing up replicas from backups, upgrading Aurora clusters, etc, and a deep interest in learning more. You will be called upon to coordinate cross-team initiatives while maintaining the balance of stability and impact, and will be instrumental in developing cohesion to visibility and interoperability across multiple linked services, including those not owned by the MONDO team but are related.

You will report to our Sr. Manager, Engineering located remotely, or you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:

  • Be a technical leader of database decoupling/migration initiatives and coordinate strategy
  • Perform reviews of proposed database migration strategies and provide recommendations
  • Analyze current database infrastructure and propose improvements
  • Provide mentorship and training to engineers managing their migrated databases
  • Write scripts to automate manual database tasks

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in operational tasks and initiatives, such as release engineering including deployment automation, linux / network level troubleshooting, and observability
  • 5+ years full-stack software development experience focused on highly available distributed systems
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis

Smartsheet provides a competitive range of compensation for roles that may be hired in different geographic areas we are licensed to operate our business from. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, level of professional, educational experience, skills, and specific candidate location. In addition, this role will be eligible for a market competitive bonus and RSU stock grant upon accepted offer. California & New York: $145,800 to $210,600 | All other US States: $135,000 to $195,000
