Overview

We have an opening for a Senior Engineering Manager to join the Open Source group, in the Application Security Products Division within Snyk.

Description:

Your team builds software composition analysis capabilities that give developers visibility and safety from the security risks in their software’s dependencies.

We're looking for someone who:

Cares about and is effective at enabling developers to fulfill and grow their potential to build amazing things, sustainably fast and securely. In your team and for customers. 

You’ll spend your time:

  • Leading a team of 10 cross-functional software engineers who own the direction of a core part of our product, in partnership with a product manager.
  • Introducing and improving the engineering practices on the team–from planning to learning; from invention to operational excellence.
  • Providing team members with regular feedback, coaching, and mentoring via regular one-on-ones and annual reviews.
  • Guiding the team to identify and execute on a strategy to achieve an ambitious vision that aligns with our customers needs.
  • Facilitating and supporting your team’s ability to identify, experiment, and solve organisational and technical challenges holding them back. 
  • Managing hiring for the team, ensuring our pipelines are healthy, helping with sourcing and designing the interview tracks.
  • Coding as part of the team where helpful. 
  • Maintaining and supporting our services during our on-call rotation (compensated)
  • Leading group (team of teams) initiatives and goals

You should apply if you:

  • Have experience managing a large team of 7+ software engineers.
  • Have experience in coaching and mentoring.
  • Have a software engineering background and are comfortable understanding and supporting the team as they debate, decide, and act on highly technical decisions.
  • Care deeply about building a high performing team with a strong engineering culture as much as a successful product.
  • Enjoy thinking big and working small in iterative/build-measure-learn cycles.
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills; able to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • Have high standards on topics such as code quality, testing, continuous delivery
  • Enjoy talking with customers to identify, prioritise and solve problems collaboratively, and build something that they really love.
  • Are comfortable working with a distributed cross-functional team.

As a company we are distributed across four offices in London, Tel Aviv, Boston and Ottawa, with 10% of the company working fully-remote. We’ve made an organizational commitment to building a strong, effective, distributed company: we form teams across multiple offices wherever possible, and we invest in communication so that we can benefit from each others’ perspectives. As well as an always-on webcam so we can see what’s happening in each office, we make heavy use of video calls, Slack, and some inter-office travel.
