About the United States Air Force Academy
The mission of the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become leaders of character, motivated to lead the United States Air and Space Forces in service to our nation. The Center for Character & Leadership Development (CCLD) plays a pivotal role in the USAFA mission by developing, administering, and assessing programs designed to promote leadership and character scholarship.
This role will be full time, year-round.
Position Responsibilities
The scope of work will include:
- Assisting the CCLD with Experiential-Based Learning (EBL) curriculum design
- Assisting with EBL program scheduling and logistics planning for
- Assisting the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning with pre-event practices, walkthroughs, and logistical rehearsals to ensure safe and successful Ropes Course execution
- Assisting with review and production of the Operating Instruction, the Instructor Handbook, and review and production of the e-Lesson Plan and Assessment
- Providing on-site Ropes Course assistance to include hands-on execution and advice, site scheduling, and emergency response actions
- Supporting the CCLD Development Division Chief as an EBL subject matter expert (SME)
- Supporting the CCLD Director with writing, researching, editing, and supporting the Ropes Course educational plans and curriculum
- Meeting with mission element (ME) representatives, and observing ME practices to identify opportunities to use Ropes Course experiences to support mission objectives
- Attending periodic CCLD staff meetings, and weekly management meetings
- Providing weekly and monthly project status information for the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning via email, PowerPoint, and in-person
Job Requirements
Education:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience in outdoor education, leadership, or similar disciplines
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in challenge course facilitation or adventure programming
- Background in outdoor education or experiential-based learning to include outdoor challenges, teambuilding, and life-lessons-style education
- Knowledge of curriculum development is desired
- Scheduling and program management skills
Qualifications:
- Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Level 2 Practitioner certification is required
- Basic Life Support (first aid, CPR, AED) or Wilderness First Aid certification is required
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, and move for extended periods of time on uneven surfaces, and ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds of gear or program equipment is required
- Climbing Wall Instructor certification is desired
- Ability to work in the high operations tempo of a quasi-university environment founded on military standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and demonstrate good program management skills
- Familiarity with using DoD, USAF and USAFA instructions and guidelines for conduct of work
- Experience working in military environment with knowledge of rank, protocol and culture
