About You

As the Claims Manager for our Risk Management Services Workers' Compensation department, you will manage a team of Claim Adjusters for the accurate, timely and appropriate delivery of workers' compensation benefits. This is a hybrid role that requires selected candidate to work from our North Austin headquarters up to two days a week. 

A Typical Day 

• Review and audit claim data and timely share results with adjuster staff. 
• Review and promptly re-assign claims to appropriate claims adjuster and provide specific direction regarding claim investigation, as warranted. 
• Identify and assist with training needs of staff. 
• Ensure regular and appropriate communication with TASB members and internal staff.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Review active claims and provide direction in order to ensure claims are handled in compliance with appropriate law and DWC rules. 
• Identify and assist with training needs of staff. 
• Identify and review all claims for potential re-insurance reporting. 
• Assure subrogation and recoveries from subsequent injury fund are processed timely and accurately. 
• Conduct performance evaluations on claims adjuster staff, based on claim review data and overall job performance. 
• Participate in ad-hoc projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned by the Department/Division Director, and/or Associate Executive Director of RMS for TASB, Inc. 
• Recruit, hire, and onboard new employees, including training of new staff.

Skills For Success

Education and Experience: 

• High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's Degree or some college is preferred. 
• 03 or 08 Texas Adjusters' license preferred. 
• Five or more years of experience in claims handling is required. 
• One year experience as supervisor preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of medical and legal terminology. 
• Ability to manage employees to include performance evaluations, complete and approve timesheets, travel requests, and expense forms. 
• Knowledge of medical and legal terminology. 
• Requires passing the appropriate background check for a Designated Campus Visitor as defined in Admin Policy 204. 
• Exceptional organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks. 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
• Knowledge of all applicable laws with the ability to analyze and provide direction on complicated claims. 
• Ability to function in a professional manner in a fast-paced environment. 
• Good computer skills, with preferred experience in windows-based system like Excel and Word. 
• Ability to generate and analyze reports using data in order to identify claim trends.
