About the role

The Web Content Strategist will be responsible for developing content strategies, for creating and approving web content, and for supporting content contributors across the university. Strategists work with various contributors to ensure engaging content within the Rowan University brand guidelines, and to offer support with creating content within the university’s content management system. The position works under the guidance of the Lead Web Content Strategist and reports to the Director of Web Strategy and Development for the Rowan University Web Services team. Candidates must follow the residency requirements outlined by the New Jersey AFT.

Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Serve as a content strategist and Cascade power user to plan and create engaging content for all Rowan University web properties, and work with internal and external stakeholders to identify, propose, and execute web content objectives.
  • Work with internal Subject Matter Experts to create high-quality content that builds Rowan University’s reputation as an authoritative source.
  • Create page content models, site maps, user journeys, and user stories to establish clear paths for both content contributors and external audiences.
  • Serve as an accessibility advocate, participating in accessibility committees and verifying content meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  • Utilize Cascade workflows to approve submissions from content contributors to Web Content Specialists for review, ensuring adherence to Rowan University’s tone and voice and other brand standards.
  • Assist the Lead Web Content Strategist with planning and creating synchronous and asynchronous comprehensive training and documentation on writing for the web, search engine optimization (SEO), web accessibility, content governance, and Rowan University brand standards.
  • Use accessibility, usability, and SEO monitoring tools to develop dashboards, audit content, establish policies, and institute remediation plans as needed.
  • Respond to user support requests for content strategy assistance, make recommendations, and escalate issues to the Lead Web Content Strategist as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Web Product Manager to identify business requirements for new and existing Cascade content modules.
  • Conduct preliminary quality assurance and testing of new and existing content modules for the development team.
  • Coordinate with teams across Marketing & Communication to generate content for landing pages, campaign sites, and organic and paid search.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Information, or other related field.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of professional experience creating and optimizing web content, specifically in a content management system (CMS).
  • Proficiency with web standards, content optimization, and SEO.
  • Detailed understanding of accessibility standards and WCAG success criteria.
  • Experience generating content models, creating site maps, and optimizing user journeys.
  • Familiarity with user-centered design and layout aesthetics.
  • Understanding of the entire web development lifecycle.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a cross-departmental team.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Familiarity with Cascade CMS for creating and editing content.
  • Experience working with Google Analytics or similar web analytics tools to build reports and gather user insights.

Salary & Benefits:

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 24, $73,899.91 to $84,980.25, with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.
