Job Description

AECOM is seeking actively seeking a highly motivated Water/Wastewater Engineering Intern to be based in Rocky Hill, CT. This position is designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic area and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning.

The responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to:

• Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
• Perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
• Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
• Prepare engineering-related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
• Prepare design drawings, plans, sections, details, and profiles/sections within the Autodesk Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD MEP.
• Water distribution system hydraulic modeling, analysis, and design.
• Sewer collection system evaluation and design.
• Water/wastewater treatment evaluation and design.
• Pump station evaluation and design.
• Assist in the development and application of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analyses related to floodplain management studies and a variety of water resource projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

• Must have completed 2 years of study in the applicable program, with 3 years preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Academic track with an emphasis in water resources, water or wastewater treatment, conveyance/pipelines is highly desirable.
• A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering concepts through coursework or work experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
• Strong logic skills and writing skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
• A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline-driven environment.
• Detail-oriented while still able to understand and comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Accurate documentation of time and effort.
• Valid Driver’s License preferred to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. 

Additional Information

• Relocation assistance and/or per diem is not offered for this position.
• This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Rocky Hill, CT.  The selected candidate must be available to work in Rocky Hill on a scheduled basis.
