Job Description Summary

The VP General Manager will lead the creation, implementation, orchestration and measurement of the integrated product strategies for a highly complex first-in-class launch product with multiple indications in different stages of lifecycle and a peak potential exceeding multi-Billion dollars in the US. This individual will be the key decision maker for maximizing the impact of the product/portfolio under their remit while actively and appropriately managing resource allocation across multiple teams, and multiple functions. This will be done in consultation with various teams and functions, including: Marketing, Sales, Novartis Patient Services, Finance, Market Access, Managed Markets and Medical, about their respective strategies, plans and proposed resourcing. This leader will significantly impact the Novartis legacy in his/her responsibility for accelerating impact in the product/portfolio.
This role will have full P&L responsibility for the assigned product and will partner closely with functional heads for decision-making of resource allocation to deliver the most accelerated impact for the product and enterprise.

The VP General Manager will directly lead a core team focused on the integrated product strategy, competitive readiness, launch excellence and performance vigilance; as well as indirectly inspire and lead a large network of senior cross-functional team members accountable for respective functional strategy, execution and deliverables as determined by the General Manager in consultation with the functions that are part of the integrated product strategy team.

This leader will be a key member of the US General Management Organization, Therapeutic Area Leadership Team and the Global Program Team and is expected to demonstrate accountability for the assigned products/ portfolio and responsibility for broader enterprise leadership in their decisions and engagement across the US Pharma organization and the Global Pharma Organization, including Drug Development and International Markets.
This leader has a passion for transformational enterprise leadership, is able to navigate and influence the organization for impact in service of delivering for patients, customers, and healthcare systems with higher quality, speed and agility. Additionally, this leader will be responsible for anticipating internal and external headwinds, identifying potential opportunities and areas of risk and pivoting the team and broader organization, as needed.


 

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define critical and specific integrated priorities and key impact measures for assigned products/ portfolio in consultation with the cross-functional product strategy team 

  • Integrate, lead, measure and take decisive action against the KPIs on the integrated product/ portfolio strategy to raise impact for product/ portfolio 

  • Accountable for the end-to-end P&L of a product/portfolio while enabling partner functions to manage day-to-day resource management 

  • Identify and integrate key human-based insights and data in partnership with functional heads to have an adaptive strategy and tactical plan in service of higher impact for our medicines 

  • Accountable for top-line results as an outcome of strategic choices 

  • Accountable for integrated cross-functional resource allocation to deliver highest impact 

  • Establish and coordinate management of KPI’s across all functions accountable for the integrated product strategy 

  • Lifecycle management to maximize product value for patients, customers and enterprise 

  • Deliver on integrated launch excellence across appropriate functions 

  • Accountable to integrate competitive readiness across functions 

  • Appropriately partner with functional heads in trade off decisions 

  • Accountable for trade-offs decisions for products under the GM and partner with other general managers for enterprise decisions, including potential trade-offs between GMs
