Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Vice President (AVP) of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to join our Finance team at [Company Name], a leading life and annuity insurance company. This individual will play a key role in driving the company’s financial reporting, analysis, and strategic planning. The AVP will be responsible for overseeing quarterly U.S. GAAP and statutory (STAT) financial reporting and analytics, providing senior leadership with actionable insights, and supporting the development and execution of the company’s strategic plans.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the organization’s long-term success, working in close partnership with actuarial, accounting, investments, and business leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analytics
• Lead preparation and review of quarterly U.S. GAAP and STAT financial results for senior management and Board reporting
• Analyze key drivers of financial performance, including earnings, reserves, capital, and investment results
• Develop clear and concise financial dashboards, variance analyses, and executive-level presentations to support decision-making
• Partner with Accounting and Actuarial teams to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment across GAAP and STAT reporting
Strategic Planning & Forecasting
• Support the annual strategic planning process, including development of multi-year financial projections and business plan materials
• Collaborate with business and actuarial teams to incorporate product, investment, and operational strategies into the company’s plan
• Build scenario analyses and stress tests to evaluate the impact of macroeconomic, regulatory, and business changes on financial results
• Provide analytical insights to guide capital allocation, growth initiatives, and profitability management
Management Support & Business Partnership
• Present financial results and strategic analyses to the Head of FP&A & Capital, CFO, and other senior executives
• Serve as a trusted partner to cross-functional teams (Accounting, Actuarial, Risk, Investments, Treasury) to align financial reporting and planning
• Lead and mentor junior analysts within FP&A, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and professional growth
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Economics, or related field required. MBA, CPA, or FSA/CFA preferred
• Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in insurance finance, FP&A, actuarial, or accounting roles, with a strong focus on U.S. GAAP and STAT reporting
• Technical Skills:
◦ Strong knowledge of life and annuity insurance financial reporting (GAAP and statutory)
◦ Proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and presentation tools (PowerPoint, BI platforms)
◦ Familiarity with actuarial and accounting systems/tools is a plus
• Soft Skills:
◦ Exceptional analytical and problem-solving ability
◦ Strong communication skills with experience presenting to senior executives
◦ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
◦ Leadership skills to guide and develop junior staff
